Safer Pathway – Men’s Domestic Violence Local Support Service in Chifley, Central West, Barrier Region and Central North
Safer Pathway is a NSW Government program supporting male survivors of domestic and family violence across the state, available to anyone in NSW.
Relevant government and non-government organisations work together under Safer Pathway to identify people affected by domestic and family violence and connect them with support to increase their safety.
Our aim
As the local coordination point, we coordinate referrals for male survivors of domestic and family violence. This includes:
- Contacting clients once they’re referred to the service
- Conducting comprehensive risk assessments using the Domestic Violence Safety Assessment Tool (DVSAT)
- Carrying out needs and safety assessments
- Providing case coordination and case management where consent is given
- Representing male survivors assessed at Serious Threat at our local Safety Action Meetings (SAMs)

How it works and how to refer
Contact is made with men who have experienced domestic violence by phone to offer support and assistance when a referral is received and consent is given. Safety assessments are then conducted to determine the kind of support needed to facilitate recovery and ongoing safety.
People can contact the service themselves and referrals also come from the police, Domestic Violence Electronic Monitoring (DVEM) program or other external service providers. People must give their consent to be referred to our service.
What support looks like
Support is tailored to everyone’s needs and can include:
- Information and referral options
- Safety planning
- Referral to a Safety Action Meeting
- Help navigating legal and domestic violence pathways
- A safe space to make calls
