Our People
Our Purpose
Yindymarra: “Respect and honour and go slow – get knowledge and understanding, to be wise in our work with teaching others.”
Yindymarra guides everything we do: taking the time to listen, to learn, to understand Country, and to pass that knowledge on. It shapes how we support our people, build leaders, and lead change across the region.
The Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council (OLALC) delivers inclusive, strength-based programs and support services to Aboriginal people within the Orange LALC boundary which includes the areas of Orange, Bathurst, Cowra, Condobolin, and the wider Central West NSW region.
Who we are
OLALC is based at 120 Byng St, Orange NSW, and has operated under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (1983) since our establishment. Like all local Aboriginal land councils in NSW, we’re a community-based organisation governed by an elected Board, representing the Aboriginal community within our boundary – while extending many of our programs and services to the wider regional community, not only those who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
We were the first Local Aboriginal Land Council in NSW to negotiate an Aboriginal Land Agreement returning land to community. Orange is also home to the first Closing the Gap Place Based Plan finalised anywhere in NSW – a commitment we lead alongside our Aboriginal Community Controlled partners in Orange.
Along with our core programs, we run a dedicated Regeneration Team delivering on-ground works to care for and rehabilitate Country, and we organise and coordinate Welcome to Country services for conferences, official functions, and community events held within our boundary.
What we do
As an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation, OLALC’s work spans domestic and family violence support, housing and homelessness services, youth justice diversion, disability employment support, early intervention, and cultural programs.
Our Values
Create leaders and build confidence through recognition.
Stand up for our people.
Bring about and lead change.
Keep a positive outlook and seek solutions.
