Bathurst Women and Children’s Refuge (BWCR) – Crisis Accommodation for Women and Children
Bathurst Women and Children’s Refuge (BWCR) provides crisis accommodation for any women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. We support both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women and children who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, due to domestic and family violence, with a safe place to stay and a pathway towards long term housing stability.
Serving Bathurst and Oberon, we support both women accommodated on-site and those we assist through outreach, wherever they’re at in their journey to safety.
How we can help
BWCR offers specialised domestic violence support for women in our refuge and through our outreach service, including:
- Safety planning and DV case management
- Referral to urgent counselling services
- Liaison and advocacy with police and courts
- Assistance with temporary accommodation pathways, where needed
- Ongoing case management on housing needs
- Referral for children’s needs, including medical care, playgroups and early intervention services
- Liaison and support for families under Department of Community Justice processes and plans
- Living skills support and referral to appropriate life skills programs
Our refuge team includes a child support worker, a child and youth specialist, a Specialist Homelessness Support worker, and specialist DV support workers, all based on-site.
Who can access this service
BWCR is available to single women, and women with children, who are:
- Homeless due to domestic and family violence
- Taking care of their children and themselves singlehandedly
- Living in and around Bathurst and Oberon regions
We can accommodate 4 families and 1 single person at a time.
Emergency accommodation for women and children escaping violence: If there’s no vacancy at the time of your referral, or a risk is identified during intake, we’ll support you through our outreach service while we help you access other suitable accommodation options.
Domestic violence refuge intake and referral
You can be referred to BWCR through our referral form, or by contacting the refuge directly. From there:
- We complete an in-person or phone intake to assess suitability and risk
- Our team liaises with the manager on appropriate referrals
- We offer a vacancy, if one is available
- If there is no vacancy, we’ll work with you to find suitable accommodation
